Based on two decades of experience, our instances of real Unix are now available to run your workloads.
The BSD family of operating systems continues to impress with amazing features and reliability, while embracing the Unix philosophy of power through elegant simplicity.
For over twenty years, we've relied on them to just work with minimal midnight surprises.
Networking isn't just a means to an end for us; it's everything.
Our instances are only as useful as the network under them. That's why we pride ourselves on offering rich, diverse connectivity with the latest hardware and techniques.
Your instances run on the amazing ZFS filesystem, backed entirely by flash memory with a heaping helping of RAM.
Our storage infrastructure is the result of years of refinement and offers blazing speed and impeccable resiliency.
Somtimes things break, or so we've heard.
We keep close tabs on all of our infrastructure, and on your instances. If anything looks amiss, we'll let you know. If we can fix it for you, we will.
Of course, metrics, alerts and status data are available to you in a friendly form, as well as industry-standard unfriendly forms (APIs).
Security is of utmost importance to us. Our operational awareness is second to none and our personnel, augmented by automated defenses, respond quickly to any potential threats.
The containerization framework we use has a proven track record of leading impregnability. Our advanced network monitoring and attack mitigation ensure that network-level attacks are dispatched with deadly efficiency.
Our infrastructure uses strong encryption and other technical measures to protect your data at rest and in transit. We pledge to do whatever we can to uphold what we believe is everyone's inalienable right to privacy in an increasingly hostile environment.
Our instances come in two flavors, Containers and Virtual Machines.
Container instances are lightweight copies of FreeBSD that run under kernel-level virtualization.
This enables them to be created and started very quickly. They are also very efficient; your processes run on bare metal without any virtualization overhead. They only consume resources that are actually in use, making them great for bursty services or developers.
The tradeoff is that the kernel is not part of your instance, so there are some limitations imposed on access to kernel-level configuraton. For more technical information, you can read About Jails.
Virtual Machine instances are fully virtualized, using the legacy-free, type II bhyve hypervisor.
FreeBSD and Debian GNU/Linux are currently supported. Virtual Machines boot using EFI and can be fully customized.
Costs are based on resource usage, represented by compute units (CU). CU is a composite measurement of processor time, memory usage, network usage, storage throughput and storage residency.
Usage is calculated hourly and deducted from your prepaid balance. You can always see the instant CU usage of an instance, as well as the projected and maximum possible hourly consumption rates.
We accept all major payment cards and Bitcoin.
